ONE BULLET AFGHANISTAN
“One Bullet Afghanistan” explores the unintended consequences of the “Nation Building” mission in Afghanistan told on an intimate scale - just one bullet, a boy, a mother, and one filmmaker’s camera.
One bullet, fired into darkness, hits a boy playing on a Kabul street, sending him into the path of director Carol Dysinger, then embedded with international forces in Afghanistan. The search for its provenance unravels what little faith his family has in the West's nation building mission, and forces this seasoned filmmaker to reimagine what a documentary needs to be.
We follow Fahim, an adolescence boy who's been shot, from his hospital bed with US military investigating the source of the bullet, to the inner sanctum of his Mother's home.
Filmmaker Carol Dysinger takes us in to the world of Bibi Hajji, the ferociously devout matriarch whose resilience holds her family together amidst endless war. Like Afghanistan itself, Bibi has survived unspeakable loss, she carries on mothering to the next generation even while she fights to keep her sons safe, and away from the path of radical Islam that would surely destroy them.
HoR are proud to announce that director Carol Dysinger is the winner of an Oscar for best short doc 2020 for the film “Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You’re a Girl)” - watch here.
Meanwhile producer Su Kim has won an Emmy, a PeabodyAward and a social mention at Sundance for the film “Midnight Traveller”.
We are happy to work with such amazing filmmakers and have so much to learn.
